Operation Move are excited to announce our partnership with the Mornington Running Festival, a relatively new event on Victoria’s beautiful Mornington Peninsula.

The two day festival includes a Health & Lifestyle expo, giving you the opportunity to experience some great products and services, as well as hear inspiring speakers and enjoy some fun activities for the whole family.

On Sunday 6th September you can take part in running events ranging from the 1km Kids Fun Run through to a full Half Marathon option.

It promises to be a fun family weekend, and we’ll have a number of Operation Movers out on the course on Sunday so be sure to stop and say hi if you see us!

If you’d love to join in the fun, you can register at the Mornington Running Festival website.

AND we have a couple of really special opportunities for you as well!

Once you’ve registered for your event, you are entitled to 30% off an Operation Move custom running plan! Let us know your goals and we’ll give you the tools to help reach them!

PLUS we have one registration to GIVE AWAY to a keen OpMover for any event they like!

To win your free race registration, just leave a comment telling us which distance you would love to run and why. Winner will be notified by email on Friday August 7th, entries close at 5pm that day.

So will you come run Mornington with us?

Happy Birthday to us, would you like a present?

In just a few more days it will be my favourite day of the entire year.

Spring day.

It marks the end of my most personally challenging part of the year as a sufferer of seasonal affective disorder. August itself is a very difficult month for my family, as some months are for some families, and Spring day which has always been about celebrating for me has taken on a whole extra layer of sheen as we leave behind the memories and sadnesses for another year.

But we have something that makes it even more awesome these days.

It is our birthday!!

On Monday, Operation Move will celebrate two years of motivating, inspiring and community building. When I first wrote this blog post, never in a million years would I have imagined that we would be doing what we are now. From a little thing on a personal blog to a rapidly growing business that gives us so much joy we don’t even have big enough words for it.

IMG_8186

That was way back near the start, a few months in to Operation Move. I barely recognise that person now, but I know she worked SO HARD to run that far at that pace. It felt like one of the hardest things I had ever done.

photo 2

In the two years between, aside from mastering the art of the smug post run selfie and utilising that skill many times a week (sorry, not sorry), I’ve gotten a little bit faster and started running a little bit further. I’ve dropped a total of nearly 14kgs. Oh, and I’m going to run a marathon quite soon. As you do, right? Tell that to the woman up there, and she will laugh in your face. But here we are.

And what about Zoey? She’s been by my side from the start, but things have changed a bit for her too.

OperationMovePart1

Way back in November 2012 she shared her month with Operation Move. She’s changed just a little bit too. She’s marathon training, has run a sub 1:50 half marathon (which is a BIG DEAL!) and is half the woman she used to be. But that’s just window dressing. It is the posture of the shoulders that tells you the real story. There is POWER in discovering you are strong and determined.

before-after

We’ve had so many wonderful women join us over the past couple of years, and the greatest gift for us has been watching other people grow in confidence and strength. Some have been with us from the start, others we have gathered along the way. All are valued and loved.

When we moved from a blog based community to a business entity it marked a shift that has given us the ability to reach out to more and more women who are looking for the kind of life changing experiences that we have had. I think what makes Operation Move so appealing to so many people is that we get it because WE DID IT too.

I could rave on forever about how proud I am every time one of our Learn to Run women say something like this:

Screen Shot 2014-08-26 at 12.51.09 pm

I don’t know if you’ve ever been part of something that helps people rediscover parts of themselves that they thought they had lost forever, but if you have you know how it fills your heart and soul to overflowing with a joy that can’t be described. I wake up every morning and I LOVE what we do.

It is our birthday, and two years ago I couldn’t have imagined where Operation Move would be now. I cannot WAIT to see what the coming years hold for us.

Because it is our birthday, we would like to give someone a very special present.

We are very close to closing registrations for our Spring Learn to Run program, with only a few spaces left.

When we close, be it August 31st or sooner than that, we are going to pay someone back their registration fee.

Yep. $220 straight to the Paypal account of our winner so they can enjoy learning to run on us, and maybe go on a little shopping spree for some gorgeous new gear to celebrate.

The competition applies to those people who have joined our Spring Far & Fast course as well. There will be one winner across both courses, but as you know we like to keep our groups small and cosy.

The winner will be notified by email on Monday September 1st, and must be a fully registered participant in either Learn to Run or Far & Fast for September. This is open to those paying in full OR by payment plan, you just need to be signed up and have accessed your private coaching group to be in with a chance. You are so welcome!

Thankyou for being part of the Operation Move story so far. Now that we are toddlers you can probably expect the odd tantrum, but also some great new experiences as we really find our feet and our voices in the world. We hope you’ll continue to grow with us.

xx Kate

Music to your ears – Yurbuds review and giveaway

OperationMove · April 4, 2014 · 22 Comments

yurbuds inspire pro

This is a review for Yurbuds Inspire Pro.

I run with music. It’s a personal thing that started because I didn’t want to hear my breathing as I struggled around the block.

But then I got hooked on what a powerful motivator music is to me. The first few bars of Back in Black will always get me moving, no matter how dark or how cold it is outside.

Pharrell, Kings of Leon, Robyn, Beyonce, Calvin Harris and more – finding music to run to hasn’t been the challenge, it has been finding the headphones.

Small ears, sweaty ears, wanting to hear traffic but still hear Kelly telling me to ‘work it’. Wanting something light, a pair that wont fall out, something that looks good.

I don’t ask for much really, do I?

Then after trying many pairs that let me down, my love affair with Yurbuds began and that is why I jumped at the chance to try the Yurbud Inspire with microphone and volume control.

Designed with women in mind, the headphones are smaller and have the huge selling point of Twist Lock technology, which is guaranteed never to fall out.

Other selling points are the soft silicone material used for a comfortable fit, the sweat resistant dry-mic and, sweat and germ resistant inserts, the colours are fabulous and my favourite feature…… the inserts come in 2 sizes, sizes that actually fit well for my delicate feminine ears 😉

Over the past three days I have done two runs and about 20 very sweaty kilometres (Melbourne you have been a very sultry companion this week) and no, there was no budging and no slipping. Not once. I put the Yurbuds in, screwed them into position and that’s where they stayed.

The volume control was easy to use once I worked out where it was and the cords could also be clipped into place with an additional, removable clasp.

Because of the inbuilt mic I have also been testing the Inspire Pro on phone calls and I’m giving them a massive thumbs up. The sound is clear as is the microphone.

It’s always nice to test products that have been sent to you. However I have been a Yurbud fan for a while now and have to admit I am up to three colours. Testing the Inspire Pro has been a pleasure and I will continue to be a loyal fan.

Emily’s aim is karaoke her way through 4 half marathons this year wearing her OpMove top with pride each time. She also talks a bit of bollocks over at Mrs Sabbatical.

To win your very own pair of Yurbuds Inspire Pro valued at up to $89.99, simply use the from below and leave a comment telling us your fave tune to move to. Good luck!

#Walk400 – Start as you mean to go on.

OperationMove · January 5, 2014 · 7 Comments

#walk400 pram walk with kids

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I am LOVING the #walk400 challenge so far!

I will freely admit I overindulged during the silly season and being unable to run gave me an excuse to sit around and, you know, not run.

In fairness I think my body really needed a decent break after the rigours of last year, but by January 1st I was SO READY to get moving and have a plan again.

I’ve not walked for a while, having favoured running, so I’d forgotten some of the awesome things about it.

Being low impact it isn’t causing me any pain in my bodgy ankle, hooray! I’ve had a gorgeous walk with my 10 year old and we just chatted and laughed in a way that was different to how we would at home. I’ve also been listening to podcasts when I walk on my own… I prefer music when I run but gosh have I listened to some inspiring conversations this week. Lots of food for thought as I enjoyed the feeling of working my body, but not pushing it like running does.

I’m super excited to share with you some of the great prizes you can win as part of #walk400 as well! To be eligible you just need to have joined our group in the forum (be sure to say hi and tell us how you are going with it!) and have shared an update via your social media with the hashtags #walk400 and #operationmove. Easy!

Each week starting next Saturday, we will announce a weekly prize of a $25 Gift Voucher thanks to our friends at She Science. If you are a woman who moves you want to get acquainted with this crew! We’ll be sharing more about them in a few weeks, but I’m super excited to be working with this brilliant young business in 2014.
